GOOD NEWS FOR CHRISTIANITY

Americans Making Resolutions Aim to Pray and Attend Church More in 2024

ChristianHeadlines.com – Nearly 6/10 Americans who make New Year’s Resolutions say they want to pray more and focus on their faith more in 2024, according to a new poll that also found that about half the country is hopeful heading into the new year. The CBS News/YouGov survey found that 47 percent of Americans feel hopeful heading into 2024, while 22 percent feel discouraged, and 31 percent answer “both equally.” Just over 1/3 of Americans say they make New Year’s Resolutions. Among those, 59% say they want to “pray or attend religious services more” in 2024, an answer that tied for seventh place with “lose weight.”

good newsThousands convert to Christianity in Egypt

christianpost.com – Despite severe restrictions surrounding Christianity and ongoing unrest in the Middle East, an evangelistic event in Cairo, Egypt, led by Michael Youssef saw an unexpected attendance of over 17,000 people — evidence, he said, that amid the darkness, the Gospel shines brightest. In an interview with The Christian Post, the 75-year-old pastor of the Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, Georgia, revealed that the November event saw an unexpected attendance of 17,715 people, far exceeding the initial expectation of 6,000. Of those, more than 7,850 put their faith in Christ. The event’s scale was unprecedented, considering the legal restrictions on evangelistic outreach in Egypt. “We saw really what God has done,” Youssef, who also serves as executive president of Leading the Way, said.

Christian are ‘Significantly’ More Generous with their Money than Non-Christians

Practicing Christians in America are significantly more likely than non-Christians to donate to charity, according to a new study that also found that Americans who read the Bible and attend church are more generous than those who don’t. The “State of the Bible: USA 2023” research from the American Bible Society found that 95 percent of practicing Christians say they donated to charity in 2022, compared to 51 percent of non-Christians. Practicing Christians also donated more money ($5,350) on average than non-Christians ($3,163).

CHRISTIANITY UNDER ATTACK

Christians faced record level of violent attacks in 2023

The international Christian persecution watchdog group Open Doors warned in its latest annual report about a dramatic increase in violence against Christians and places of worship worldwide, as nearly 5,000 Christians were killed for their faith. Open Doors, an organization that monitors persecution and supports the Church in over 60 countries, released its World Watch List 2024 on Wednesday, documenting trends and ranking the 50 worst countries in the world when it comes to Christian persecution. According to the data, at least 13 Christians were killed for their faith per day in 2023, on average, with 4,998 Christians killed in the World Watch List 2024 yearly reporting period that ended on Sept. 30, 2023. At least 14,766 churches and Christian properties were attacked worldwide during that time, with Open Doors reporting a seven-fold increase in attacks on churches and Christian-run schools, hospitals and cemeteries.

PersecutionHamas terror organization charter targets Christians and US service organizations

FoxNews.com – You may be surprised, but Hamas does not call for only killing Jews and eliminating Israel. If you are Christian, a member of another religion or even participate in your local Rotary club or the Lions, Hamas also considers you an enemy, too. “Hamas is using Gaza as an umbrella to be legitimate,” says author and Middle East expert Walid Phares. “The reality is this is a jihadist movement, and it is manifesting itself in America and Canada, and in Western Europe. We have never been at this level of danger for our democratic world.” The Hamas charter seeks to expand Islam to become the controlling religion across the globe, targeting any non-believer, which includes “Main Street” America.

Violence in India’s Manipur state has reached ‘a breaking point,’ UN experts warn

ChristianPost.com – U.N. experts have appealed to India’s government over the ongoing violence in Manipur state, which has left 187 dead, 70,000 displaced and hundreds of churches destroyed amid ethnic and religious tensions. Nineteen independent experts with the U.N. Human Rights Council have noted that Christians have been disproportionately impacted, saying the violence was incited by hateful speech against the Christian Kuki-Zo minority, particularly women, due to their ethnicity and religious beliefs. The conflict involves Manipur’s largely Hindu Meitei and largely Christian Kuki-Zo tribes. The UN experts also expressed alarm over the misuse of counter-terrorism measures against ethnic and religious minorities, the human rights group ADF International said in a statement. Giorgio Mazzoli, director of U.N. Advocacy for ADF International, said the crisis has reached “a breaking point.”

HOW CHRISTIANITY POSITIVELY IMPACTS SOCIETY

societyThe Bible promotes healthy wellbeing not only for the individual, but also encourages healthy government and societal interactions as well! Here are some examples:

  • Order – The Bible emphasizes an organized society wherein each of us are responsible to government officials (Romans 13:1-7), our workplace (bosses or clients), our position within the family structure (Colossians 3:1-4:2) and the leaders of our church (Hebrews 13:7). All of us are ultimately responsible to God for our behavior. Order is an important biblical design for our lives. Historically, the gospel was brought forth in the Roman Empire. The Romans, while ruthless and despotic, maintained an order internally which promoted peace and community works such as roads and a postal service. These advantages helped propel the dissemination of Christianity. Order still is needed in today’s society to allow for courtesies, helps, and the spread of the gospel. Such attributes exist only with difficulty in anarchy when citizens are trying to simply survive and fend off injustices and violence.
  • Service – The Bible tells us to do good to all men both within the church and in society generally (Galatians 6:10). Such good works might include: helping the poor, community cultural improvements, doing well at work, job creation and scientific discoveries.
  • Personal responsibility – The Bible teaches that we are to be responsible for our immediate family and ourselves, so we and our families do not burden society, and so provide a good example of the church to our communities. We also are to work hard for our employers or clients for the glory of God (2 Thessalonians 3:14; Colossians 3:17).
  • Respect for the individual – Christianity is most unusual among religions and political philosophies in emphasizing the importance of the individual. This stress allows us personal freedom to live by faith (Romans 14:24). Further, it teaches us to have careful regard for one another in how we speak and act, emphasizing a love (Greek: agape) that keeps the needs of the other person in view, bearing one another’s burdens, having compassion and kindness towards one another (Galatians 6:2; Romans 12:9-16).

So how do these four factors help our local communities? If each of us is responsible for ourselves and our families, working hard for employers and clients, helping individuals and institutions in our community, all in a loving manner, we can build a gracious and supportive atmosphere where each of us can succeed.

SURVEY RESULTS – BELIEFS ABOUT CHRISTIANITY & SOCIETY

Christianity underpins the foundation of Western society. Recent Teleios research has shown that individuals in societies embracing Biblical values have better wellbeing than those in non-Christian nations and are characterized by other positive measures within the economic, legal, security, health, and educational realms that might serve as markers of personal happiness. Nonetheless, some deny the historical and current benefits of Christianity.

Teleios conducted a survey regarding the benefits of Christian society on an Instagram account frequented by Christian adolescents and millennials. There were 565 responses. The majority of responders were: female (78%), < 35 years (67%), primarily from the United States (60%) or Europe (13%) and evangelical (88%).

benefits of christianityA slight plurality (46%) believed they were living in a Christian versus secular based society (45%). Respondents noted advantages to living in a Christian society, compared to any other type of society (41%) and compared specifically to a secular society (18%). Participants indicated the top 3 potential advantages of a Christian society were a stronger moral (82%) and ethical base (71%) as well as greater love among people (75%).

Within the advantages noted of a Christian society in relation to government, the top three responses were: recognizing the primary biblically mandated role of government to keep order in society (60%); maintain individual rights, especially freedom of religion and expression (56%); and reduce corruption (54%).

In contrast, the greatest potential disadvantage of a Christian society was seen as Christians becoming too complacent with power and forgetting the love of Christ (64%). Participants believed most often Christians could help maintain a balance between preserving freedom and avoiding religious despotism by assuring the church and individuals are teaching the word of God (60%).

This survey suggests that young Christians recognize generally the benefits of Christian society. However, they lack a more complete knowledge of the benefits of biblical principles within society. This provides on opportunity for Christian teachers and pastors to teach young people to understand our heritage and scripture’s formative role and impact upon it.

CHRISTIAN PERSECUTION – WHO ARE THE WORST OFFENDERS?

Christianity is the most persecuted religion on earth (read).

Please pray for the persecuted!

OpenDoors has developed a list of the top 50 countries where it is unsafe to follow Jesus. We will highlight one country at a time. Now highlighting…

Afghanistan

China
Persecution Type:Islamic oppression
Persecution Level:Extreme
Population:38,914,000
Christians:Thousands
Main Religion:Islam
Government:Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan
Leader:Hibatullah Akhundzada

What does persecution look like in Afghanistan? It is impossible to live openly as a Christian in Afghanistan. Leaving Islam is considered shameful, and Christian converts face dire consequences if their new faith is discovered. Either they must flee the country or they will be killed. This was true before the Taliban takeover: the situation has become even more dangerous for believers this year. The Taliban will make sure that Islamic rules and customs are implemented and kept. Christian converts don’t have any option but to obey them.

If a Christians new faith is discovered, their family, clan or tribe has to save its honor by disowning the believer, or even killing them. This is widely considered to be justice. Alternatively, since leaving Islam is considered a sign of insanity, a Christian who has converted from Islam may be forcibly sectioned in a psychiatric hospital.
